Dr. Howard Botts
Dr. Howard Botts is Vice President and Chief Scientist for the Spatial Solutions division of CoreLogic. He heads the company’s geospatial database development efforts leading a team of geographic information systems (GIS) professionals who generate and maintain natural hazard solutions for the insurance, financial and energy industries.
Howard is a founder of Proxix Solutions, a geospatial information provider, and joined CoreLogic when the company acquired Proxix in 2007. He is Professor Emeritus of Geography at the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, and has had many former students move on to work for financial and insurance companies throughout North America in site location, underwriting, claims, actuarial, market research, GIS and IT departments.
With more than 30 years experience in GIS, Howard is a recognized field expert in developing natural hazard risk solutions and his work has been published extensively. He frequently
presents to business and professional organizations on a variety of topics, including hazard database development, understanding portfolio natural hazard risk, market potential models and geographically-based market analysis. As the Chief Scientist of CoreLogic, Howard has been quoted by a wide range of trade publications and national news outlets on CoreLogic geospatial analytics reports.
Howard earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in geography from California State University at Northridge and received a Ph.D. in geography from the University of Wisconsin.
